Ingredients With A Purpose
Calendula:
Calendula is an antiseptic, bacteriostatic and hemostatic herb. According
to herbalist Matthew Wood, “It is often used as a gentle application
on sunburn, burns, sores, ulcers, insect bites, bruises and other topical
injuries...diaper rash and rash between the legs in hot damp weather.”
Calendula contains high levels of organic iodine which naturally prevents
bacteria from growing on the surface of application. Chamomile:
Chamomile’s primary active ingredient, azulene, is a natural relaxant
and antiallergenic compound. Chamomile is safe to be given orally as
well as topically to children. It is especially powerful for treating
eczema, psoriasis, irritation, swelling, burns and acne. Comfrey:
Comfrey naturally contains allantoin, a substance that triggers accelerated
cell growth and speeds up healing. Plantain:
Plantain is a weed-like herb that contains high amounts of vitamin C.
It has a natural cooling effect and is especially effective for the
treatment of rashes in which there is a prickling, itching or burning
pain. Plantain is also recommended for the treatment of skin irritation,
ulcers, eczema, impandango and acne. St. John’s
Wort: A potent antiseptic and natural analgesic, St. John’s Wort
works to quickly heal wounds and skin irritation. In fact, according
to Matthew Wood, it has even been used during the treatment of radiation
burns for quick, effective relief. Information obtained from: Wood, Matthew. The Earthwise Herbal: A Complete Guide to Old World Medicinal Plants. Berkeley, CA: North Atlantic Books, 2008. |
